GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview March 17-20

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in Brandon and beyond.

It’s Thursday and the weekend’s just around the corner. If you’re still stumped on what to do, we’ve got some great ideas.

The Brass Tap St. Patrick's Day Celebration

  • Where/When: The Brass Tap, 775 Brandon Towncenter. Thursday at noon.
  • Why Go: The Brass Tap hosts an afternoon of festive entertainment in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Patrons over the age of 21 will enjoy selections of cigars, wine, and green craft beers beginning at noon. Live music by The Raise will kick off at 5 p.m. on the outdoor stage.
  • Price: Free! Drink prices vary.

2011 Spring Home and Garden Show

  • Where/When: Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 Highway 301 North, Tampa. Fri., 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.; Sat., 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Why Go: This three day expo has seminars and exhibits related to Florida home renovation. Whether you're in search of a great contractor, remodeling your kitchen, building your dream home or perhaps installing a new pool, the Spring Home and Garden Show has something to offer.
  • Price: Adults $8, Seniors $7, Children under 12 free.

St. Patrick's Day Ribs

  • Where/When: Costco, 10921 Causeway Blvd. Saturday at 11 a.m.
  • Why Go: Join the Epilepsy Services Foundation and Chef Tommy Pate for southern style barbecue ribs this weekend at Costco. The organization is raising money for local children to attend Camp Boggy Creek this summer.
  • Price: $20 per slab of ribs.

  • Where/When: Onething Prayer Center 777 W Lumsden Rd. Saturday at 7 p.m.
  • Why Go: Visit Brandon's Onething Prayer Center this weekend and celebrate the release of Tampa musician and vocalist Sam Wilkerson's  album, "Speak To My Soul." The talented singer, songwriter and trombone player will perform music from his new CD as well as meet with guests. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Wine, Chocolate and Romance

  • Where/When:  Museum of Science and Industry,11315 46th Street North, Tampa. Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m.
  • Why Go: The 2011 Bay Area Renaissance Festival continues its theme weekends with a day wine and chocolate tastings from local vendors and an array of fun activities for couples. Bring your sweetheart to this 2 day festival and fall in love all over again. Enjoy couples grape stomping, pie eating contests, the sweet stroll, and free vow renewals all weekend.
  • Price: Adults $17.95, Children $9.95
