Brandon's History Recounted at Community Reunion (PHOTOS)

An event hosted by the Greater Brandon Oldtimers Association and the Brandon High School Alumni Association at the First Baptist Church of Brandon had people with deep ties in Brandon talking about the town's history — and their own.

 

The Greater Brandon Oldtimers Association has been meeting once a year for more than three decades as a chance for families with deep ties to Brandon to share a lunch, catch up, and reconnect to the memories of their past.

Likewise, the Brandon High School Alumni Association each year for decades has hosted a grand reunion for all classes of students who wore the colors of maroon and white.

This year, the groups combined their efforts at the on April 28.

"In this day and time people are so busy, this brings them together and it helps all of us better understand the history of Brandon," said Jerry Rodriguez, whose ties to Brandon come through his wife, Karen McDaniel Rodriguez, who is the president of the Brandon High School Alumni Association.

"She bleeds maroon, through and through," he added.

Rodriguez said that unlike his wife, he is not a Brandon alumnus, but that their daughter is a current Eagle. He gets involved with both the alumni and oldtimers associations, he added, "because I love my wife and it's important to her."
