ON THE ROAD: Construction Alerts for Greater Brandon Motorists

As July gives way to August, roadway construction news you can use from the Florida Department of Transportation as you plan your daily commutes and evening activities.

As July nears its end, the Florida Department of Transportation offers a number of construction alerts for roadways of particular interest to Greater Brandon motorists.

  • The Meridian Avenue entrance to the upper deck of the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway (also known as the "reversible express lanes," or REL) will be closed through 5 a.m. July 25 and from 8 pm. July 29 through 5 a.m. Aug. 1. DETOUR: The only option for eastbound drivers is to enter the upper deck from the lower level of the expressway at the slip ramp just west of U.S. 301.
  • Likewise, the Meridian Avenue entrance to the expressway's upper deck will be closed nightly, from 8 p.m.-5 a.m., July 25-28. DETOUR: Eastbound drivers July 25 and 26 can enter the upper deck from the lower-level of the expressway at the slip ramp near 34th Street. On July 27 and 28, entrance will be available from the slip ramp just west of U.S. 301.
  • Eastbound traffic between 21st and 22nd streets and 50th Street will be detoured off the Selmon Expressway through 5 pm. July 25 and from 8 p.m. July 29 thorugh 5 a.m. Aug. 1. DETOUR: Eastbound traffic will be directed off the expressway at Exit 9 (21st and 22nd streets) and detoured east on Adamo Drive (State Road 60). Then, back on to the expressway using the 50th Street entrance ramp. Tolls will be suspended at the Exit 9 off-ramp during detour hours.
  • Westbound traffic between 50th and 22nd streets is scheduled to be directed off the expressway from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. July 25 and 26. DETOUR: Westbound traffic will be directed off the expressway at Exit 11 (50th Street) and detoured west on Adamo Drive (State Road 60). Then, back on to the expressway using the 21st and 22nd streets entrance ramp. Tolls will be suspended for entering the expressway westbound at 22nd Street during detour hours.
  • Eastbound traffic between 22nd and 50th streets is scheduled to be directed off the expressway from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. July 27 and 28. DETOUR: Eastbound traffic will be directed off the expressway at Exit 9 (21st and 22nd streets) and detoured east on Adamo Drive (State Road 60). Then, back on to the expressway using the 50th Street entrance ramp. Tolls will be suspended at the Exit 9 of-ramp during detour hours.
  • One lane might be closed eastbound on the expressway between Exit 9 (22nd Street) and Exit 11 (50th Street) from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 25-29. Also, from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. July 25 and 26.
  • The left lane might be closed in each direction of Adamo Drive (State Road 60) between 26th and 34th streets through 3 p.m. July 23 and from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 25-29.
  • One lane might be closed each way on 20th, 21st and 22nd streets from State Road 60 to Durham Street through 4 p.m. July 23 and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 25-29. Also, from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. July 25-29. Through 5 a.m. July 25 the right two lanes will be closed on southbound 21st Street from State Road 60 to the railroad tracks near the Selmon Expressway.
  • One lane will be closed in both directions of 34th Street from State Road 60 to Grace Street from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 25-30. Single-lane closures also are set from 7 p.m.-5 a.m. July 25-28.

Construction Alerts: Interstate 75 Slab Repairs from Progress Boulevard to State Road 60  

  • Various I-75 exit and entrance ramps will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. through July 28. Also, some single-lane closures on ramps with two or more lanes are planned as well. Visit myTBI.com for scheduling and detour information.
