Brandon Rally Draws Hundreds of Protestors Against Recreation Cutbacks

More than 300 people turned out in Brandon tonight, Aug. 11, for a raucous rally to support the county's after-school program and to protest the closures of a majority of recreation centers.

"This is a revival tonight. We are going to take back our government," said Jack O'Grady, one of the rally's organizers.
A petition protesting the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners' vote to abandon after-school programming and to close recreation centers drews hundreds of signatures.

More than 2,000 people have now signed the petition, according to rally organizers.
All seven county commissioners were invited to attend the rally. None of the commissioners were in attendance.
