Reader's Report: Music Showcase Awards $1,300 to Breast Cancer Patient

Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October prompted Music Showcase to raise funds and conduct an essay contest to find a worthy recipient of aid.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Music Showcase held an essay contest to find a patient currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

After being nominated by a friend, Shelly Ellis won the contest because she is without healt insurance and is about to undergo a double mastectomy.

The money awarded to Ellis on Nov. 1 was raised through various fundraisers at Music Showcase throughout the month of October. These included the sale of pink cupcakes, cookies and ribbons and a Sock Hop, for which food was donated by Chick-fil-A, Domino's Pizza, Hungry Howies and PB&J Vending.
