Strong Early Morning Storms Bring Torrential Rains, Lightning

It's the second major downpour for the area in less than 24 hours and commuters advised to watch out for minor street flooding.

Strong thunderstorms, torrential rain and heavy winds are forecast to roll through the Greater Brandon area, according to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service.

The band of storms coming in from the Gulf of Mexico will bring “gusty winds of 35 to 45 mph with frequent lightning,” according to the statement issued at 3:43 a.m. Sept. 7.

The heavy rain will reduce driving visibility to zero in some places while those who may be tempted to venture outside to watch the storm are advised to stay indoors.

The bad weather is expected to continue until around 5 a.m.

The National Weather Service forecast for the rest of today, Sept. 7, is not much better. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms with a high near 87.
