Strongman Steve Carrier Uses Feats of Brute Strength To Build His Ministry

Steve Carrier wraps up a four-show run at Kings Avenue Baptist Church tonight, March 17, where he promises to turn it up a notch with his "feats of strength ministry."

It’s not every day you hear a preacher say, ‘No problem, light the fire, burn down the walls!’ "

But it’s not every day that a strongman missionary knocks on your door and ventures inside to extol the virtues of faith with props that include steel to bend, burning blocks to break, bats to snap, license plates to tear in half, soda bottles to pop, phone books to tear apart and a frying pan to roll into the shape of a burrito, all with nothing more than teeth, muscle and brute force.

As Kings Avenue Baptist pastor Charles “Chuck” Richard put it: “God touches people’s hearts through this guy.”

Welcome to the Steve Carrier show at , where Carrier, holder of a Guinness Book of World Record for number of baseball bats snapped with hands, legs and muscle, adds a whole new level to the field of worship.

Carrier’s last show at Kings Avenue Baptist is March 16 at 7 p.m., and he promises it will be his grandest show of his four-show run. He performed also at area schools, including for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Durant High School and Central Baptist School on March 15.

“If you have the biggest crowd tomorrow night [March 17] I’ll run through a wall of 2-by-4’s set to fire,” said Carrier, who performs nationwide with his Mega Force Evangelistic Ministries.

“When you open the doors of the church a lot of people don’t show up,” Carrier said. “But when you run through 2-by-4’s and break out of handcuffs, that just might get people in."

And that’s how Carrier describes his missionary work, a career of showcasing strongman skills to bait the masses into an audience eager to hear more — and to hear more about God’s will and ways.

“It’s not just a show,” Carrier said about his “feats of strength ministry."

His mission, he added, is to show just how fragile life is, and just how even the strongest of men would do better if they didn’t walk alone.

“Men make their plans but only God determines the outcome,” Carrier said. “Don’t put God off, you’ll just get better at doing it."
