Things To Do in Brandon This Weekend - Crawfish Boil, Relay, Tea & More

Tadpoles is bringing in crawfish from Louisiana, the Greater Brandon Community Foundation is having a tea, and the Relay For Life season in Southeastern Hillsborough County winds up with the overnight fundraiser at Plant City High School.

  • The 11th Annual Spring Jubilee, hosted by St. Stephen Catholic Church and School, runs through April 22, at 10428 Saint Stephen Circle in Riverview, off Boyette Road west of Bell Shoals Road. Hours are April 20, from 4 to 11 p.m.; April 21, from noon to 11 p.m.; and April 22, from noon to 8 p.m. Food booths, carnival games, raffle tickets, live entertainment, thrill rides and more.  A hotdog-eating contest is scheduled for April 21 at 1 p.m. Hunt for prizes, including tickets to Disney World, at the Pirates Treasure Hunt for kids, April 22 at 11 a.m. Wristbands for carnival rides cost $20.   • Brandon Patch reader and veteran Greater Brandon community theater actor Omar Montes is part of a 15-member cast in this month's production of Bare: A Pop Opera," on stage at the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa, at 1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place. The show is about a group of high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school facing issues of sexuality and personal identity and seeking answers from their church, their friends and, ultimately, from within themselves. For mature audiences only. The show is directed by Jennifer Marshall, with musical direction by Philip King. (Additional show dates are April 26-29.)

  • Another veteran community theater actor, Nathan Pearce, reports that he is on stage at the Lakeland Community Theatre, 121 South Lake Ave., for a production of Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple." Pearce plays the role of Felix Ungar.   • The Plant City Relay For Life kicks off 6 p.m. April 20 at the football field and track at . Seventy-two teams, with a collective 902 participants, reportedly are set to participate in the overnight fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and its push to rid the world of cancer.

  • Openings were still available for Chef Todd's Italian Side of the Family cooking class at the in Brandon. Featured chef Todd Lopez, whose family has been in Ybor City for six generations, will "introduce you to the Italian side" of his family and their cooking. "From the kitchen of his grandmother Lily DiBona to here at the Rolling Pin Culinary Center, it's time to enjoy some of his family's favorite Italian dishes." The cost is $50 and space is limited.   • Culinary students from Durant and Tampa Bay Tech high schools faced off last week and now it's time for the student chefs from Riverview High and the South County Career Center to compete in their round at the First Annual High School Iron Chef contest at the in Brandon. The Brandon store will donate 5 percent of all store sales by school supporters to each culinary program. Registered observers will collectively have input into the People's Choice portion of the scores.

  • The Greater Brandon Community Foundation's Fifth Annual Spring Tea is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at in Brandon. Prizes awarded to winning decorated tables. "A day of fun, inspiration, raffles and auctions while 'Impacting Lives over Coffee,' " is how the event has been billed. Attendees asked to bring a minimum $25 gift card to support the foundation's Angel Program.

  • Some 2,000 pounds of live crawfish from Louisiana reportedly has been ordered for the Second Annual Tadpoles Crawfish Boil. The cost is $30 for the family friendly, for all you can eat, live music event in the parking lot of Tadpoles, at 115 East Brandon Blvd. The event starts at 2 p.m. and runs until the crawfish is gone. Stop by Tadpoles and pre-pay to save $5. Part of the proceeds reportedly will be given to the Renegade Pigs Motorcycle Club, for their charity, Cops Helping Cops.
