Volunteers Needed for New Hospice Thrift Store in Brandon

LifePath Hospice is now rounding up a team of volunteers to help operate its new thrift store in Brandon.

LifePath Hospice will open its third thrift store this fall in Brandon Plaza, 1335 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon. The original LifePath Hospice Thrift Store opened in 2002 in South Tampa, and a second location opened in 2008 in Carrollwood.

“Our volunteers, donors and customers suggested we look in Brandon for a site of a future LifePath Hospice Thrift Store,” said Sharon Jones, Chapters Health vice president of development. Chapters Health is the parent organization of LifePath Hospice. “When we started to explore this option, we connected with a very agreeable landlord who is very receptive to the hospice mission and was willing to work with us.”

The 9,000-square-foot facility is now undergoing renovations. When it opens, the thrift store will stock clothing, household goods, furniture, jewelry, accessories, antiques, books and small appliances.

Proceeds from sales at the LifePath Hospice thrift stores go to support the end-of-life care programs in Hillsborough County.

Donations will be accepted at the store, and donors will be able to call to schedule pick-up service for large items.

The store will be run by a staff manager and assistant, with volunteer help needed for other jobs, including accepting and sorting donations, stocking shelves, assisting customers and running the cash register.

“Thrift store volunteers are vital to our mission,” said Anne Ferrell, LifePath Hospice volunteer coordinator. “We are excited to offer this volunteering opportunity for residents in the Brandon community.”

Prospective volunteers attended an informational meeting June 19 at the First Presbyterian Church of Brandon, 121 Carver Ave. in Brandon

But if you weren't able to attend, LifePath staff will be on hand again at the church Thursday, June 27 between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

An RSVP is requested, but not required. Contact Anne Ferrell at 813-357-5321 or email her atferrella@chaptershealth.org.
