Map G: Better, But Still a Far Cry From Optimal

New electoral boundaries for Hillsborough County elections leave a lot to be desire, even with the better- of the-lot selected.

I attended the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners' hearing (and vote) on redistricting last night.  I had previously attended one of the open houses hosted by the county to "get input" from the citizens.

Essentially, those open houses were the county employees telling the citizens how the county had decided to redraw the lines for the new districts.  Those "discussions" resulted in Maps A,B,C and D.

The one selected at the June 20 meeting was Map G.

Map G is not as good as Map I (the infamous, "People's Map") and Map J.  But Map G is way better than county's squiggly lines in maps A, B,C and D.

Do I believe that Map G should be adopted whole?  No way.  As I said at the June 20 meeting, the people of Florida voted for fair districts on the state and federal levels.  Just because the citizens of Hillsborough County were not allowed to vote on the issue of fair districts on the county level doesn't mean we don't want them.
