Winning Father Of The Year Essays, Top Dad Rides In The Parade

Each year top dads ride in the Greater Brandon Fourth of July Parade, determined by winning essays their kids write about them.

Among the dignitaries showcased at the annual Greater Brandon Fourth of July Parade are top dads nominated by their kids at local elementary schools.

The contest each year is presented by the Community Roundtable, the nonprofit group that also runs the annual Father of the Year writing contest.

Here's a look at the winning essays, this year written by three fourth-graders at Lithia Springs Elementary School:

  • First placeSarah Allen, for her dad, Sean.
  • Second placeElizabeth Rennart, for her dad, Brian.
  • Third placeQuentin Johnson, for his dad, Eddie.

My Hero
By Sarah Allen

My dad is my hero because he loves me and he is always there for me. My dad will not stop until everything is right. Sure he yells at me and gets made at me but I love him and no other dad can replace him. He is still #1.

My dad is a hero because he saved my cat Mittens (she's a gir) from the next door neighbor's wild bobtail cat (which is a boy) that was trying to kill my cat! He knew he was trying to kill my cat. He tried to bite her, scratch her but my kitten Mittens was defending herself by clawing him and hissing. But hissing didn't help. That's when my dad came and saved my cat Mittens.

My dad. Sure does a lot for me. One thing is signing me up for sports — sometimes without permission. The best part is . . . sometimes he's my coach. I still do call him Coach when typically I should call him dad. He does way, way, WAAAAAAY more — that's why I love him.
