While our children have inherited some of our features and traits, remember they are living their lives through their own eyes. The experiences they are a part of, their observations and thought processes are theirs alone. The learning that takes place during adolescence is crucial for social and emotional development and to pave the way for healthy relationships as adults.
Simply put ~ Let your kid be a kid. Let them make mistakes. Let them fail as a result of their own decision. Let them talk to you about anything without fear of judgement. Let them learn and grow. Let them develop character and morals.
After all, each of us was a teenager at some point and I am positive that we made some poor choices (that may be putting it lightly for some of you!). We made mistakes, we failed and we learned. ....And we turned out OK.
