A celebration of Andrea Bower's life was scheduled to take place 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in the Greater Brandon area of Riverview, at 6919 Providence Road.
Bower, 13, a student at Guinta Middle School in Riverview, was killed Nov. 16 while attempting to cross Bloomingdale Avenue to board the school bus at Las Brisas Drive at about 8:30 a.m.
Family members describe Bower, nicknamed "Peachie," as a kind, compassionate, free-spirited youngster who wanted to someday travel the world, working for charities and exploring new cultures.
Memorial attendees were asked to wear her favorite color, purple. And, in lieu of flowers, the family asked memorial donations be made in her honor to a local animal shelter or wildlife conservation fund.
Bower is survived by her mother, Katharine Bower; brother, Jacob; grandmother, Jennifer Northcott; aunt, Heather Bower; great-grandparents, Jack and Joyce Bower; great-aunts and uncles, Jack (Beverly) Bower Jr., Jon Bower, Jeff Bower, Janice (Dennis) Bennett, James Bower and Joy Tolbert; several cousins and friends; and James and Alana Williams.
A fund has been established in her memory at the Copper Bell Cafe in Riverview, where Andrea Bower's mother worked.
Residents can drop off cash, gift cards and checks payable to "Katharine Bower" at the Copper Bell Cafe, at 11228 Boyette Rd., Riverview.
Donations can be made online as well.
