Shimberg Remembers Fish Hawk Trails Founder Glen Cross

Glen Edward Cross, 72, died July 24 in a car crash in North Carolina. The well-known Tampa Bay developer was responsible for the Fish Hawk Trails and FishHawk Ranch in Lithia.

 

Glen Edward Cross, 72, died July 24 in a multiple-car wreck on Beech Mountain Parkway in North Carolina, in an accident that involved a truck towing two cars on a trailer, according to a report in the High Country Press in North Carolina.

Cross, who lived in Fish Hawk Trails in Lithia, owned a summer residence in Banner Elk, N.C., with his wife, Sandy.

Cross was the only fatality in the crash.

Cross is responsible for the development of the Fish Hawk Trails community on Lithia-Pinecrest Road and helped launch the 1988 Development of Regional Impact that would become FishHawk Ranch.

Cross was born in Indiana and moved to the area in the 1960s, working for Tampa developer Hinks Shimberg. In 1975 the two men formed the Tampa development company Shimberg Cross Co., which started its work selling 163 single-family lots in Temple Terrace.
