ATM Card Skimmer Suspect Caught on Camera

Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies need help identifying a man they say attached a skimmer at three separate SunTrust banks.

The hunt is on for a man Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies say attached skimming devices onto the ATMs at three Brandon area banks in recent days.

Deputies say the incidents took place between July 3-7 when a man attached and removed skimming devices from these SunTrust bank locations:

  • 9601 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa
  • 3511 Bell Shoals Road, Valrico
  • 403 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon

“Evidence located at the scene indicated the suspect attached the skimming equipment to the ATM card readers using green tape and white two-sided tape,” wrote Det. Larry McKinnon, sheriff’s office spokesman, in an email to media. “At the Tampa location, a white male is seen on surveillance video installing a long, thin silver box with electronic equipment inside.”

That silver box was left behind by the suspect. It contained equipment to record unsuspecting customers’ fingers as they entered their PIN numbers on the ATM keypads.

“A broken green and silver card reader face plate was located in a nearby flower bed,” the email said.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 813-247-8200. Those wishing to be eligible for a cash reward can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477), report anonymously online at www.crimestopperstb.com or text "CSTB plus your tip" to C-R-I-M-E-S (274637).
