Bank Robbery Falls Short in Brandon

A teller at the Bank of America branch at 2105 West Brandon Blvd. refuses to turn over money to a would-be bank robber who soon after was charged with attempted strong-arm robbery.

A man claiming to have a gun demanded money from a Bank of America teller in Brandon who effectively said, "Get lost," according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's report.

The man then fled and was captured a short distance from the bank, where he was arrested and charged with attempted strong-arm robbery.

According to the report, Julius DeWayne Wright, 47, with an at-large address, approached the teller at the Bank of America branch at 2105 West Brandon Blvd., on July 11 at 12:19 p.m.

He reportedly presented to the teller a note demanding money, in which he claimed as well that he was armed.

“The victim refused to comply with the demands and the defendant fled on foot from the bank,” according to the sheriff’s report.

Wright reportedly was arrested a short distance from the bank, in the area of Kathy Drive and West Brandon Boulevard.
