Brandon House Fire Caused by Lightning

Two adults and a dog safely exited the burning house.

Two adults and a dog are safe following a house fire at 1405 Lido Dr., Brandon, around 3:55 Saturday, Aug. 3.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, units responded to a call about a structure fire to discover smoke pouring from the roof of the house.

Fire rescue crews quickly entered the residence with a hose line to find fire in the attic space. It took them about 25 minutes to extinguish the fire and prevent any more damage to the home.

The two adults who were inside said they heard a loud noise and something hitting their house during a storm. Minutes later, they smelled smoke. They called 911 right away and exited the home safely.

A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Fire investigator was called to the scene and determined the fire to be accidental, possibly caused by a lightning strike.

Red Cross was also called to the scene to assist the two adults with shelter.

There are no reports of injuries to civilians or fire rescue personnel.
