Brandon Therapist Accused in Shooting Turns Herself In

The mental health counselor, Sarah Pollard Hughey, was "romantically involved" with the victim, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

A Brandon mental health counselor accused of shooting a man in her office has turned herself in, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

According to the Times, deputies say wasn't in self-defense and that counselor Sarah Pollard Hughey, 50, hid the fact that she was "romantically involved" with the victim, 30-year-old Anthony Cornelius Howard, who had been one of her clients.

Hughey is the owner of Hughey Behavioral at 9350 Bay Plaza Blvd., Suite 120.

Hughey faces charges of aggravated battery and giving false information to a law enforcement officer, the Times reports. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office issued the warrant Dec. 21 and she turned herself in after Christmas.

Three days after the shooting, Hughey of insurance fraud and making a false report to law enforcement. Investigators said Hughey had filed an insurance claim saying some of her gold jewelry had been stolen, but she was later found to have sold the jewelry at a flea market.
