Car Fire Spreads, Glass Shatters, Birth Certificates Spared

The fire occurred across the street from Brandon Regional Hospital, near Moon Avenue.

A car caught fire near the Brandon Regional Hospital this morning, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials.

A car parked in front of 119 Oakfield Plaza burst into flames, and that fire spread to the building. The building, suite #212, is where the hospital handles records, including birth certificates, according to Ronnie Rivera, spokesperson for Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. No records or birth certificates were damaged in the fire, he said.

There was a fire under the hood of the car that spread to the building. The front awning caught fire and the front windows shattered from the heat.

There were employees in the suite at the time, and they were able to evacuate from the rear of the building, Rivera said.
