Domestic Violence Cited as Reason for Fight Between Brothers

A Brandon man is arrested after reportedly telling Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies that he shot his brother in the leg. The two allegedly had been in a fight over family matters.

A fight between two brothers left one in jail and another in hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg, according to a report from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

James Wayne White, 32, of 529 South Parsons Ave. is facing a domestic violence charge of aggravated battery with great bodily harm after he reportedly shot his brother, Travis White, 25, once in the leg.

According to the sheriff’s report, the incident became known at 4:33 a.m. June 28, when James Wayne White called 911 from his brother’s home at 7039 Drury St. in Tampa and said he had shot his brother in the leg.

Once at the scene, the report notes that deputies found Travis White suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper leg. Travis White was treated by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa where he underwent surgery and remains listed in stable condition.

Deputies said an investigation revealed the brothers were involved in a fight over family matters when James Wayne White allegedly pulled a .40 caliber handgun and shot his brother Travis once in the upper leg.

James Wayne White remained on the scene until deputies arrived and refused to give any statements. Upon completion of the investigation, detectives arrested the Brandon and booked him into the Hillsborough County Jail where he was detained with no bond.
