Dover Man With Reported Suicidal Intentions Charged in Shooting at Deputies

Shots reportedly fired after nine hours of negotiations between sheriff's deputies and a man inside his residence.

The day for a man with reported suicidal intentions went from bad to worse after he reportedly armed himself with a handgun and locked himself inside his residence, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office report.

Robert Fiske, 61, of 6007 Harwell Estates Drive in Dover, was arrested Feb. 5 and charged with eight counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer after firing “at least two rounds” at eight deputies in a “tactical vehicle” en route to delivering Fiske a telephone, according to the sheriff’s report.

The report states that there were no injuries and that Fiske was taken to the Orient Road Jail.

Deputies responded to Fiske’s residence at 2:32 p.m. in answer to a call that said a person, who turned out be Fiske, had been making suicidal threats, according to the sheriff’s report.

“Fiske was inside his residence alone and refused to come out,” the report notes. “SWAT and negotiators responded to the scene in an attempt to talk Fiske out of his residence. Fiske armed himself with a handgun, racked the slide and told deputies that he would shoot them if they entered his home.”

During the “extensive negotiations” that ensued, the deputies approached the home and Fiske reportedly told negotiators later that he had intended to shoot the deputies in the tactical vehicle.
