Florida Silver Alert Lifted for Brandon Man Found in Georgia

Frederick Erwin, 80, has been found in Georgia, where he reportedly ran out of gas and was spotted walking the roadway. He had been reported missing by his family since April 13.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has been informed that Frederick Erwin, 80, missing from his Brandon home since April 13, has been found by Georgia authorities walking on a roadway after his car ran out of gas.

Erwin, of 1806 Bryan Road, was found around 6 p.m. April 14, according to the sheriff’s report. He turns 81 on April 28.

The Hillsborough sheriff’s office received word from the sheriff’s office in Lowndes County, Ga., that deputies spotted Erwin “walking along the roadway after he abandoned his car when it ran out of gas."

According to his family, Erwin has cognitive impairment and suffers from diabetes and high-blood pressure. Erwin is 5-foot-6, 172 pounds and balding, with tattoos on both arms.

The initial missing report said Erwin was believed to be driving a silver 1994 Mercury Marquis, with damage to the rear bumper and yellow primer with Florida tag 704-JQX.

Erwin left home with only $20 and has no credit cards, cell phone, GPS or road maps and does not have the ability to operate a phone to call home or for help. He has wandered away in the past.

Erwin's wife of 47 years said in an interview earlier today that her husband had been talking about wanting to return to Massachusetts where he ran a auto body shop for 35 years.

The couple moved to Brandon in 2003.
