Former Armwood High Football Player Faces Murder Charges in Brito Deaths

Tavari Grant, 18, is one of two men charged in the shooting deaths of Kiara and Jeremi Brito, students at Robinson High and Madison Middle schools, respectively.

Decorated once as an Armwood High School football player, Tavari Grant, 18, now faces home invasion and murder charges in the shooting deaths of a Robinson High school student and her brother, a student at Madison Middle School.

Siblings Kiara, 18, and Jermei, 13, Brito were found fatally shot June 10 at their home near the MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, according to news reports.

The Tampa Tribune reported that Grant, with Charles Wait, who reportedly was friends with the siblings, went to the home, at 3021 Van Buren Drive, just before 6 a.m. to commit a robbery.

Calls and emails to Armwood High School and people affilated with the school's football team by Brandon Patch were not returned.

Waits reportedly entered the home and  then Grant shot the siblings multiple times, Tampa Police spokesperson Laura McElroy reportedly said.

Grant reportedly was a running back for Armwood High School before transferring to Tampa Bay Technical High School for his senior year. He was named to the Tampa Tribune’s All-Hillsborough County Football Team in 2008, following his junior year.
