Friedmans Receive Sheriff's 'Volunteer of the Year' Award in Greater Brandon

Rita and Allen Friedman have been volunterring with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for nine years.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, at its third-quarter recognition program in Greater Brandon, recognized Rita and Allen Friedman for their volunteerism at the Town ‘n’ Country community station.

Thankful for the couple’s “generous donation of their time and talents,” the sheriff’s office bestowed upon the husband and wife the “Volunteer of the Year” award for “exemplary performance through their volunteering duty.”

Criteria for nomination includes the number of hours contributed to the office, and in this regard the Friedmans were said to be “especially helpful during this past year, when a community service officer, who was out for an extended illness, could not come to work.”

“The Friedmans came in every day to assist citizens with fingerprinting, answering phones, and providing assistance with referrals to deputies and other agencies,” said Major Mike Perotti, in reading from the prepared remarks at the Sept. 14 Awards Recognition Ceremony, at the jail assembly in Greater Brandon, at 520 North Falkenburg Road.

“This allowed the community station to remain open until the assigned office could return,” Perotti added. “They still continue to come in and work every Wednesday.”
