Greater Brandon Crash Claims Life of Sun City Woman, 79

Faulty brakes were noted in the report of the fatal crash at U.S. Highway 301, just south of Falkenburg Road. The Florida Highway Patrol reported as well that the July 2 accident caused the area to be closed down for about an hour.

 

A 79-year-old Sun City Center woman died July 2 in a crash in Greater Brandon, on U.S. Highway 301, south of Falkenburg Road, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the report, the driver W.L. Williams, 36, of Temple Terrace, attempted to avoid the crash by entering the grassy median and southbound lanes of U.S. 301. He then reportedly ran into the path of a 2004 Acura driven by Priscilla Munsch, 34, of Riverview.

According to the report, when the two vehicles collided, nearly head-on, the Acura rotated counterclockwise and struck a 2005 Kia driven by the Sun City Center woman, whose name was not released. The truck also struck the woman’s car.

The truck is owned by TNS, Jr. Hauling of Riverview and was heading north on U.S. Highway 301, in the left-turn lane, when its brakes brakes failed, according to the report.

The victim reportedly was taken to Tampa General Hospital where she later died. Williams didn’t suffer any injuries, the report said. Munsch and her passenger, Jason Munsch, 31, suffered minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
