Gunman Reportedly Tells Dover Victim Before Fatal Shot: ‘You Know What This Is About'

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is looking for a gunman wanted in the fatal shooting of Antonio Campos, whose life ended Aug. 12 at about 10 p.m. on Munson Drive in Dover, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

 

The search is on for Victor Herrera-Cruz, 38, wanted as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Antonio Campos, 43, who was shot Aug. 12 at 3508 Lindsay St. in Dover, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s report, the victim, the suspect and two eyewitnesses, who knew the defendant, were “behind the residence drinking alcohol beverages together,” when an argument ensued between Herrera-Cruz and Campos at about 10 p.m.

Herrera-Cruz reportedly then left the scene and returned five to 10 minutes later, when he approached Campos, still sitting outside, “and stated something to the effect, ‘You know what this is about’ before shooting the victim."

Herrera-Cruz had “brandished a firearm from his waistband and shot the victim in the head,” according to the sheriff’s report. The 43-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect had fled that scene in a silver-colored truck “and has not been seen since,” the report noted. “Campos and Herrera-Cruz had a physical alteration a few weeks prior.”

No address was given for Herrera-Cruz. The victim lived at 3110 Munson Drive in Dover.
