Hillsborough County Fire Rescue To Host Recruitment Open House

A Jan. 17 has been set for those interested in applying for the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue's Reserve Responder Program. The program is in place of the previous volunteer firefighter program.

 

Applicants are sought for the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Reserve Responder Program, which replaces the group's previous volunteer firefighter program.

The new program became effective Jan. 1.

The Jan. 17 open house, at which Chief Frank Fernandez and other fire and rescue officials will be in attendance to answer questions, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at Hillsborough County Fire Rescue headquarters in Tampa, at 2709 East Hanna Ave.

An online application is avaiable as well.

Applicants who meet the minimum criteria are eligible to sit on the Reserve Advisory Committee or become a:

  • Reserve Firefighter I
  • Reserve Firefighter II
  • Reserve Firemedic I
  • Reserve Paramedic
  • Reserve Fire Officer
  • Reserve Specialist

The program aims to:

  • foster volunteerism  
  • building a pool of eligible candidates for future employment
  • promote workforce diversity
  • ensure full accountability with consistent staffing, training levels and experience
  • enhance safety and effectiveness with the addition of reservists to existing career crews
