Home Fire in Dover Under Investigation

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a fire in a home above a detached garage in Dover on Wednesday, Jan. 16, where a man and a woman reportedly were attempting to extinguish the flames with a garden hose.

 

The cause of a fire that left "extensive smoke damage" to a home in Dover is under investigation, according to a report from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

First responders reportedly arrived at the home, at 14229 North Wooten Drive, on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 5:20 p.m.

"The residents were at the neighbors when they noticed smoke coming from their home, which is located above a detached garage," according to the report. "When crews arrived on scene they found a male and female, approximately 40 years of age, attempting to extinguish the flames with an ordinary garden hose."

Both residents were transported to Tampa General Hospital for possible smoke inhalation, the report notes.

"The fire appeared to be concentrated to the exterior of the home on an
elevated porch area," the report continues. "The home has some extensive smoke damage and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Hillsborough County Fire Investigators."

Representatives from the State Fire Marshal's division also responded, with their K9 unit.
