Update: Deadly Shooting at Brandon Apartment Under Investigation

A 49-year-old Plant City man was shot dead after two suspects barged into a Palms at Palisades apartment early Thursday morning, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports.

Update, 10:44 a.m.:

The victim in Thursday morning's deadly shooting at a Brandon apartment complex has been identified as Leon Davis, 49, of Plant City.

It is still undetermined if the victim lived at the Palms at Palisades apartment part time or was just visiting overnight when at least two suspects barged in around 3:20 a.m. as he was sleeping, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Larry McKinnon.

The names of a woman and her three children who were present at the time of the shooting are not being released at this time, McKinnon said Thursday.

"We don't think it's random," McKinnon said of the shooting. "The motive is still unclear why they wanted to come in and target him."

The apartment complex, one of Brandon's oldest, is located just off Clay Avenue.

Deputies were investigating a fatal shooting at a Brandon apartment complex early today, June 14, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

At about 3:20 a.m., they received a 911 call about a shooting at , 502 Camino Real Ct. When deputies arrived, one man was found dead of apparent gunshot wounds, sheriff's office spokesman Larry McKinnon said in a media release.

Authorities told the Tampa Bay Times that two suspects barged into the home, which was occupied by a man, a woman and three children. The suspects shot the man dead before fleeing, officials said, and the woman called 911 and locked herself and the children inside a bathroom until police arrived.
