I-75 Crash Victim, Young Dad Graduated From Brandon High in 2010

Construction worker Robert P. Armstrong, Jr., 19, was hit and killed by a pickup truck on I-75 near State Road 60 on June 14. Armstrong's family reportedly was setting up a fund for the victim's infant daughter.

The family of a Valrico construction worker killed in an early morning accident June 14 on Interstate 75 and Brandon Boulevard reportedly is setting up a memorial fund for the victim's 4-month-old daughter.

Robert P. Armstrong, Jr., a 2010 graduate of Brandon High School, had a finacee and 4-month-old daughter.

"Right now the family is together and putting together a statement," said a friend at the family's Valrico home,who did not want to be identified. "They are in the process of setting up a memorial fund for Robert's 4-month-old."

Armstrong, 19, was killed around 4:30 a.m. June 14 when he was hit and killed by a pickup truck on I-75 near State Road 60, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The pickup, driven by Logan Tanner Feagle of Land O' Lakes, struck a message board trailer before hitting Armstrong who died on the scene.

Workers with Pepper Construction were in the area moving traffic control devices and message boards along the shoulder of the highway when the crash occured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

"Feagle failed to maintain control of his vehicle and drove onto the shoulder of the roadway causing the front of his vehicle to collide with the message board trailer and truck," said the FHP release

Four southbound lanes of I-75 - the inside lane remained open - were closed for four hours in the aftermath of the crash which saw traffic backed up to Temple Terrace.

Charges against Feagel are pending at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
