Motorcyclist Dies In Collision With Van
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement noted in a release that a right-of-way violation at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Palm River Road led to the July 24 accident.
A 62-year-old man from New Jersey died July 24 when he crashed into a van at U.S. 301 and Palm River Road in the Greater Brandon area.
Marcus Willard Johnson, 29, of Tampa was driving a Dodge Caravan south on U.S. 301, in the left turn lane, when he attempted to turn left onto Palm River Road at 3:34 p.m., when the crash occurred, according to a release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The driver of the motorcycle was traveling northbound on U.S. 301, in the outside lane. Both vehicles entered the intersection, where Johnson turned left in front of the motorcycle, violating the right-of-way, according to the report.

As a result, the front of the motorcycle struck the right side of the van throwing the motorcyclist from his bike.
The driver of the motorcycle died at the scene.

The identity of the motorcyclist had not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation.
