Report: Motorist Hits Deputy's Car on Bloomingdale Avenue in South Brandon

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the "minor traffic crash" on Bloomingdale Avenue today, Oct. 22, near the Target Superstore in Riverview, involved a woman motorist and a deputy.

An early-morning accident near the Target Superstore on Bloomingdale Avenue backed up traffic all the way to Kings Avenue Monday morning.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokesman Larry McKinnon said the "minor traffic crash" occurred at about 6:30 a.m. and involved a woman motorist driving east in the westbound lane on Bloomingdale Avenue and a sheriff's deputy, who was taken to the hospital to get checked out for minor neck and back pains.

The woman reportedly had a suspended driver's license.

The accident reportedly occurred at Bloomingdale Avenue and Duncan Road, near the Target Superstore in Riverview.

"The lady just got confused and thought she was in the right lane and obviously she wasn't," McKinnon said. "It was still a little dark outside and, thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt."

Accidents such as this one, McKinnon said, are not unusual for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

"We drive more than 2 million miles a year," he said. "We're just as vulnerable to traffic crashes as anyone else."

McKinnon had not yet received additional details of the accident, including the names of the motorist and the deputy.
