Riverview Driver Killed in Brandon Crash

The victim's car was struck by a truck that failed to stop for a red light, according to investigators.

An accident in Brandon has killed a 40-year-old Riverview man.

Scott Elliot Valentino died Tuesday morning, when the Pontiac he was driving on Crescent Park Drive was struck by a 2008 Dodge pickup truck, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

According to investigators, Terrance Mitchell, 36, of Riverview failed to stop his truck at a red light at the intersection of Falkenburg Road and Crescent Park Drive.

The truck struck the driver's door of the Pontiac driven by Valentino.

Investigators estimated the truck's speed at about 60 mph, as it went through the red light. Valentino was trying to make a right turn on to Falkenburg Road with a green light, when the accident occurred at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 2.

Valentino was pronounced dead at the scene.  

A blood sample was Mitchell, although there are no indicators alcohol was
involved in the crash. Mitchell was taken to a local hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.

No charges issued at this time, pending further investigation.
