Robbers Strike Kmart in Brandon, Video Shows Grand Theft in Action

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office seeks the public's help in finding two men caught by surveillance cameras entering the Kmart in Brandon on Oct. 12. They reportedly left with five chains from the jewelry department valued at $1,590.

Who took the five chains stolen from the jewelry department at the Kmart in Brandon on Oct. 12? That's what detectives want to know and they're hoping a surveillance tape catching the thieves in action will help them crack this case of grand theft.

After entering the Kmart in Brandon, at 1602 West Brandon Blvd., the thieves walked to the jewelry department, where the man wearing the red shirt forced open the secured case, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report and a viewing of the surveillance video.

"The one subject forced the display case open and removed five chains, valued at $1,590, while the other subject stood by," according to the report. The first man is seen stuffing the chains into his pocket as both men turn to leave the store.

The men left in a vehicle described as a white, older model sports-utility vehicle (SUV), "possibly a Ford Explorer."

According to the report, one man left the store to retrieve the vehicle while the second man, seen in the video wearing the red shirt, exited the store, where he was picked up at the curb. The second man reportedly left the store through the garden center.

The thieves are described as follows:

  • White male, about 6-foot, with low-cut hair and large build, wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and red-and-black shoes.
