Roommate Faces Murder Charge in Shooting Death of Ruben Gonzalez

Still hospitalized, Seffner resident Felipe Ramos Jr. has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal May shooting of his roommate, Ruben Gonzalez. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reportedly had two eyewitnesses.

A Seffner man was remote booked from his hospital bed, facing a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his roommate, Ruben Gonzalez.

Felipe Ramos Jr., 39, of 11605 Valencia Drive, Apt. B, was charged June 7 at Tampa General Hospital with second-degree murder in the death of Ruben Gonzalez, 36.

Ramos is also facing a charge of felon in possession of a firearm.

Deputies reportedly found  on May 12, at around 9:26 p.m., outside his home. He was pronounced dead an hour later at Tampa General Hospital.

Reportedly, two eyewitness saw Ramos push Gonzalez out the front door during an argument. Ramos allegedly then followed Gonzalez outside, punching the victim with his fist

The sheriff’s report notes that Ramos then stood over Gonzalez as he lay on the ground and punched him several more times before lifting him off the ground by the neck and screamed “I told you I would kill you.”

 The eyewitnesses heard Gonzalez scream for help and ask someone to call 911, according to the report.

Ramos reportedly then asked a white female to get his “piece” at which point eyewitnesses observed a female come out of the residence with a firearm.

“The defendant was attempting to shoot the victim in his face, while struggling for
the firearm, when the gun went off striking the defendant in the chest,” according to the sheriff’s report. “The defendant screamed at the victim and continued to attempt to shoot the victim in the face.  The gun went off a second time, striking the defendant in the chest a second time.  The defendant then pushed the victim to the ground, pointed the firearm at the victim and then shot the victim twice in the face, causing his death.”

The investigation is ongoing.
