Sheriff's Internet Predator Unit Makes Arrest in Valrico

Computer forensics led to the arrest of a Valrico man following a two-month child pornography investigation by the Internet Predator Unit of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

 

Detectives with the Internet Predator Unit of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on Oct. 24 made an arrest following a two-month investigation involving a man two days shy of his 24th birthday.

As a result, Derek Michael Morgan, of 2830 Buckhorn Preserve Blvd. in Valrico, faces 20 counts of possession of child pornography.

According to the sheriff's report, detectives executed a search warrant and seized "four computer and digital media items." Subsequent computer forensics allegedly revealed that Morgan was in possession of files showing children ages 13 and younger "engaged in sexual activities."

The report claims that Morgan "admitting to downloading the child pornography" and that he also was "in possession of child pornography files that he made available for download, which were downloaded by detectives."

Morgan was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail in the Greater Brando community of Tampa, at 1201 Orient Road.
