Tampa Icon Freddie Solomon Memorialized
The former University of Tampa and NFL star and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office employee was remembered at Monday's memorial service, TBO.com reports.
Former University of Tampa football great and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office employee Freddie Solomon was honored at a memorial service Monday morning in Tampa, TBO.com reports.
Solomon, who played on two Super Bowl-winning teams with the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, died on Feb. 13 of complications from colon and liver cancer. He was 59.
Solomon was beloved for his work with Tampa-area children as a community relations coordinator for the sheriff's office. HCSO named its Freddie Solomon Annex in Ybor City in his honor last month.

"Around our offices, we called Freddie 'Humble Pie,' '' said Sheriff David Gee in TBO.com's article. "He was just 'Coach Solomon.' He never drew attention to himself. He just wanted to help people.''
Among the attendees at Monday's service at St. Lawrence Catholic Church were Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo and NFL Hall of Famers Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Ronnie Lott, TBO.com reports.
