An early morning shooting at a home in Valrico put deputies in peril after they came to the aid of a Valrico woman who said her boyfriend hit her and forced her from their home after an argument, according to a report from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Two deputies reportedly arrived on the scene, at 4110 Silver Pond Lane in Valrico, at about 1:10 a.m. Dec. 14. There, they made contact with Allen Harmeyer, 45, at the front doorway of his home, according to the report.
Harmeyer reportedly threatened the deputies, then went inside his home, appearing minutes later, armed with an AK-47-style assault. He then made good on his threats, firing multiple rounds toward the deputies, the report notes.
"One deputy returned fire, sending Harmeyer running back inside his home," according to the report. "A short time later, Harmeyer came out of his residence and surrendered."
No injuries were reported in the shooting, but Krystal K. Register, 34, suffered "minor bumps and bruises during the initial assault" and was treated and released at the scene. The report further notes that two marked patrol vehicles sustained about $5,000 in damages from Harmeyer's gunfire.
No one else was inside the home at the time of the gunfire.
Charges were pending.
