Woman Flees Zales With Engagement Ring, Desperate or Greedy? (VIDEO)

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office seeks the public's help in identifying a woman who fled with an engagement ring set from Zales Jewelers at the Westfield Brandon shopping mall.

She shouldn't have put a ring on it — and most definitely she shouldn't have fled. That's the word from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, which seeks the public's help in identifying a woman who fled with an engagement ring set from Zales Jewelers at the Westfield Brandon shopping mall.

According to the incident report, which includes a video of the thief in action, the woman, posing as a customer, asked to see a gold, engagement ring set.

"Once the female had the ring in her possession, she ran out of the store with it," according to the report.

The moment was captured on surveillance video. The ring set is valued at $1,739. The theft reportedly took place Sept. 23 at approximately 2:50 p.m.

The thief is described as:

  • Female, Hispanic or black, with light complexion.
  • Thin build, 5-foot to 5-foot-5.
  • Age: 18 to 21 years.
  • Black hair, with a red patch on the right side.
  • A bright-colored tattoo on her upper, left arm.
  • Last seen wearing a black tank top and jeans, with rips in the knees.

Anyone with information about the thief's identity or whereabouts is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8200. To be eligible for a cash reward, with information leading to an arrest, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477). Report anonymously online at www.CrimeStoppersTB.com.
