Brandon Patch Photo Quiz Answers: Name That Elected Official

Brandon Patch readers were asked to identify elected officials captured (for the most part) in photographs from the 2011 Florida Strawberry Festival Parade. How well did you do?

Name recognition is key in political life but so, too is face recognition. So, how many elected officials could you identify by sight in the posted March 8, at the conclusion of the 2011 Florida Strawberry Festival Parade? The answers appear below:

Photo No. 1 — Republican Rich Glorioso, a native of Plant City and retired U.S. Air Force colonel, serves in the Florida House of Representatives. He is the District 62 representative.

No. 2 — Mark A. Ober, a Brandon High School graduate, is the State Attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit of Florida. He was first elected in 2000.

Photo No. 3 — Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan. Hagan represents District 5, a countywide seat, which means his election is based on the votes of all Hillsborough County residents. He served eight years in the District 2 seat before securing the at-large seat.

Photo No. 4 — Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Beckner. Beckner represents District 6, also a countywide seat. He was elected to the county commission in 2008.

Photo No. 5 — Congressman Gus Bilirakis represents Florida’s Ninth Congressional District. A Republican from Palm Harbor, Bilirakis was first elected to the Congress in 2006. His district encompasses portions of Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough County. He is serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Photo N0. 6  — Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe. Sharpe represents District 7, also a countywide seat. He was elected to the county commission in 2004.

Photo No. 7 — Hillsborough County School Board Member Candy Olson holds the District 2 seat and serves this year as the board’s vice president. She twice served as the board’s chair.

Photo No. 8 — Hillsborough County School Board Member April Griffin holds the District 6, countywide seat. She was elected to the board in 2006.

Photo No. 9 — Sitting with former, and frequent, Brandon News contributor Marlene Boggs is Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Earl Lennard, also the former Hillsborough County School District superintendent of schools. Lennard is pictured at the 2009 Greater Brandon Fourth of July Parade. Lennard is a graduate of Brandon High and the namesake of Lennard High School in Ruskin.

Photo No. 10 — Pictured with her sisters, at the crowning of the 2010 Florida Strawberry Festival Queen, Natalie Burgin, is State Rep. Rachel Burgin, pictured at right. The Republican represents District 56.

Photo No. 11 — Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee, a graduate of Brandon High School. Gee, who has been with the sheriff’s office for 33 years, was first elected sheriff in 2004.

Photo No. 12 — Hillsborough County School Board Member Susan L. Valdes  holds the District 1, countywide seat. She was elected to the board in 2004.

Photo No. 13 — Hillsborough County School Board members, from left, Carol Kurdell, Doretha W. Edgecomb and Jack R. Lamb. Kurdell holds the District 7 seat and was first elected to the board in 1992. Edgecomb, the board’s current chair, was first elected in 2004 and holds the District 5 seat. Lamb, representing District 3, was first elected in 2000.
