Coming Up: Hillsborough County Commissioners Meet Feb. 16 at the Fred B. Karl County Center

The agenda is out for the Feb. 16 meeting of your Hillsborough County Commissioners. Here's some agenda highlights — and links to explore the agenda yourself.

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners meets Feb. 16 in the second floor conference room of the Fred B. Karl County Center at 601 East Kennedy Blvd. The meeting starts at 9 a.m.

The agenda is online, and here are some highlights:

  1. A public hearing at 2 p.m. will address budget amendments to the adopted spending plan for fiscal year 2011. Included is an amendment that would revise the budget for the Boyette Road, with boundary, to Lithia Pinecrest Road project.
  2. Also at 2 p.m., the board will vote to approve the PIP Medical Providers Ordinance designed to “curtail the rampant increase in personal injury protection insurance fraud occurring within Hillsborough County, and to license and regulate businesses operating within the county suspected of engaging in fraudulent insurance practices.”
  3. Board members will officially recognize Christina Seghi, who has been named the 2010 Employee of the Year by the Florida Animal Control Association. Seghi works for Hillsborough County Animal Services.
  4. Commissioners are set to approve a public hearing March 2 at 2 p.m. to discuss an ordinance that would ban on public roads. The Tampa City Council recently addressed the issue and voted not to adopt such an ordinance. Also to be addressed, Lela Lilyquist’s request that the county study a pilot project to house the homeless.
  5. The Commissioners will receive a report from the County Administrator concerning . Other reports to be heard:
    • Commissioner Kevin Beckner’s reports on the Jan. 6 meeting of the Juvenile Justice Task Force and on the Jan. 28 meeting of the Public Safety Coordinating Council.
    • Commissioner Ken Hagan’s report on the Dec. 10 meeting of the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority.
    • Commissioner Sandra Murman’s report on the Jan. 26 meeting of the Advisory Committee.
    • Commissioners Murman, Beckner and Mark Sharpe will report on the Dec. 6 board meeting of HART (Hillsborough Area Regional Transist). The three commissioners, along with Lesley "Les" Miller Jr., will report on the Jan. 4 board meeting of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).
    • Al Higginbotham’s report on the Jan. 18 board meeting of Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful

Coming up: Recommendations regarding the Hillsborough County Fair will be addressed at the March 16 meeting. Also at that meeting, a report on how county officials are dealing with mental health issues and a recommendation to name a road — or, alternatively, a trail or major pathway — after Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr.
