Elections Chief Of Staff To Address Brandon-Area Democrats at Barnacles

Craig Latimer, who has announced his candidacy to replace Earl Lennard, who is not seeking reelection to the post of Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections, will speak at Barnacle's on Aug. 9.

Brandon-area Democrats will welcome Craig Latimer, chief of staff to Hillsborough County’s Supervisor of Elections as their featured speaker at the group’s Aug. 9 meeting.

In a talk entitled, “Issues, Obstacles, and Opportunities in Election Procedures,” Latimer will address Hillsborough County’s status as a "covered jurisdiction," subject to Justice Department oversight to ensure its compliance with the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

“We are very pleased to welcome Craig Latimer,” said Angie Angel, president of the East Hillsborough Democratic Club. "We have invited Mr. Latimer to discuss preparations for the 2012 election cycle, including poll-worker recruitment and training, voter education, polling sites, and the controversial changes in early voting and vote-by-mail procedures, as well as Hillsborough County’s status as a covered jurisdiction."

Upon Busansky’s sudden death, former Governor Charlie Crist appointed to the job Earl Lennard, who kept Latimer on the job.
