Elections Offices Extend Hours for Oct. 9 Voter Registration Deadline

Planning to vote Nov. 6? Then today, Oct. 9, is the last day to register to vote and to change your party affiliation, reports the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections office. Office hours have been extended to accommodate registrants.

To vote in the 2012 General Election on Nov. 6 voters must register to do so at least 29 days in advance, which means the deadline to do so is today, Tuesday, Oct. 9. The deadline has been extended by one day this year because of the Columbus Day holiday.

To accommodate an anticipated rush of late-minute registrants, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Earl Lennard is extending office hours today to 7 p.m. at all four elections offices (see addresses below).

"We're lengthening our office hours [today, Oct. 9] from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. as a courtesy to our residents who may need a little more time getting their application in," Lennard said in a news release about the extended hours. "Over the past couple of weeks we've seen a steep increase in new voter applications and address changes from people who have recently moved to Hillsborough County."

Any citizen who wishes to register to vote can do so at any Hillsboorugh County Supervisor of Elections office, public library or state agency that provides public assistance.
