Republicans Mark 100-Day Countdown at Medard Park in Plant City

Greater Brandon, Alafia and Plant City Republican clubs are meeting at Edward Medard Park in Plant City on May 19 for a picnic marking the 100-day countdown to the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Aug. 27-30.

 

Today for Republicans marks the 100-day countdown to the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, with picnic festivities planned to get under way 11 a.m. at the Burnt Stamp Pavilion at Edward Medard Park in Plant City.

There through 3 p.m. today, May 19, the Greater Brandon, Alafia and Plant City Republican Clubs will host the “100 Day Countdown Picnic.”

The park is at 5737 Turkey Creek Road.

Organizers say the picnic is a chance for grassroots Republicans to meet with federal, state and local candidates. Free barbecue, door prizes and raffles will be offered. Also planned, a straw-poll fundraiser.

Debbie Cox-Roush will lead the ceremonies. Cox-Roush is the former vice chairwoman for the Republican Party of Florida and the former chairwoman for the Hillsborough County Republican Party. She's also a member of the Alafia Republican Club.

Dignitaries planning to attend the picnic include:

  • U.S. Senate candidates George LeMieux, Connie Mack III and Col.  Mike McCalister.
  • U.S. House candidates, include]ing E.J. Otero and Tom Rooney.
  • Additionally, many state and local candidates and officeholders from the Republican Party will greet those in attendance. 

"This is a great chance for local Republican activists to meet and converse with candidates for all offices," said Jeff Lukens, president of the Alafia Republican Club.

Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs and a dessert to share. A $2 park entry fee is required.
