Romney Campaign Hits Local Streets for 'Super Saturday' Voter Drive
Volunteers plan to go door-to-door in many parts of Hillsborough County on Oct. 6 to raise a deeper awareness of Mitt Romney's bid for the White House.

Romney campaign volunteers throughout Hillsborough County plan to hit the streets Oct. 6 for what’s being dubbed “Super Saturday.” During the all-day event, volunteers in the Greater Brandon area will go door-to-door in neighborhoods throughout the area encouraging people to get out and vote in the Nov. 6 general election.

“We’ve already made eight million voter contacts so far,” said Jill Bader, Florida communications director for the Republican National Committee. This amounts to eight times more phone calls and 56 times more door knocks than at this time in 2008, she added.
Saturday’s event will include a combination of door-to-door activities and phone calls. Volunteers going into neighborhoods will work in shifts between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Phone calls will go out until 8 p.m. The hope is to reach as many neighborhoods in Hillsborough as possible.

Operations will be based out of the Romney campaign’s three Hillsborough offices:
- 1602 Oakfield Drive, Suite 207
- 4465 W. Gandy Blvd., Suite 820
- 234 Bullard Parkway
Would-be volunteers can also sign up to help out the campaign at any of the three offices on Saturday, Bader said. Wednesday’s debate has generated a lot of interest in volunteering, she added.
“It’s getting the already-growing enthusiasm going even better,” Bader said.
Locally, members of the Alafia Republican Club, joined by County Commissioner Al Higginbotham and House candidate Jake Raburn, will walk FishHawk Ranch's Precinct 701, the largest precinct in the Hillsborough County.
Walkers will meet at Bevis Elementary School, 5720 Osprey Ridge Dr., Lithia, at 9 a.m. There, walkers will form up into two-person teams and will be provided a map and a list of homes to visit. Walkers are urged to wear colorful patriotic clothing or campaign T-shirts.
