5 Things To Know About First-Graders

Caught on the track walking a Relay For Life lap at Riverview High School, two Sessums teachers talk about what makes their first-graders tick.

Tanya Miner and Rebecca Crescentini are teachers by day, relayers by night, at least the night of March 26, where they walked the track of the high school their students might one day attend.

The women teach the first grade and Sessums feeds into Riverview High School, where the overnight 2011 Riverview Relay For Life was held March 26-27.

The Sessums staff had lots of arts and crafts on site, including, for the transportation lap, a makeshift school bus that in this instance was seating three, Miner, Crescentini and her sister, Rachel Crescentini.

One thing led to another and the question came up: Who has more fun in the classroom with all the arts and crafts, the kids or the teachers?

As might be expected, Rebecca Crescentini said, “both."

So, what makes a first-grader special?

The teachers offered these five things you should know about first graders:

  1. “They’re very imaginative,” Miner said.
  2. “They love to talk,” Crescentini said.
  3. “They have lots of energy,” Miner added.
  4. “They’re usually eager to please, Crescentini added.
  5. “And they always want to use the bathroom,” Miner concluded.
