Armwood, Plant Advance to State Finals at Citrus Bowl in Orlando

Time for another pep rally in Seffner for the Armwood High School Hawks, whose football team under Head Coach Sean Callahan advances to another state finals matchup. The Hawks will be playing for a third state title.

The hopes and dreams of a senior-heavy Armwood High School football team are one step closer to realization as the Hawks failed to disappoint its fans at Lyle Flagg Field on Dec. 9.

There, the Hawks sent Bartram Trail home to St. Johns with a season-ending, 46-38 defeat in the 2011 Class 6A semifinal contest. (For game coverage, .)

The Hawks, undefeated this year, will vie for the school’s third state title, facing Miami Central at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 17, at 1 p.m.

The Tampa Tribune leads one of its post-game articles with the note that this will be the 11th consecutive year a team representing the Hillsborough County School District will be competing for a state title.

Plant High defeated Neptune Beach Fletcher, 26-7, to advance to the finals in Class 8A competition.

The Panthers are scheduled to play Miramar on Dec. 17, at 7 p.m., also at the Citrus Bowl in Miami.
