Armwood, Newsome Advance in 2012 FHSAA Football Playoffs

A great night for high school football in the Greater Brandon area, with Armwood and Newsome wins in the first round of the 2012 FHSAA football playoff season. They join Durant next week for regional semifinal games.

 

The Armwood Hawks and the Newsome Wolves both won their games last night, Nov. 16, in the opening round of the 2012 Florida High School Athletic Association football playoff season.

The Hawks made it close against the Largo High School Packers, with a 10-6 win played in Largo.

The Wolves were decisive, at home, with a 52-7 win against the Gaither High School Cowboys.

Next up for the Wolves, in Class 7A-Region 2 play, is a semi-final match-up against crosstown rivals Durant, who remain undefeated with their 34-7 regional quarterfinal win against the Tampa Bay Tech Titans at home.

Game time for the Durant-Newsome Class 7A-Region 2 semi-final game is 7:30 p.m. Nov. 26. Durant is at 4748 Cougar Path in Plant City.

Next up for the Hawks is a rematch with Hillsborough, which handed Armwood its toughest, and closest, loss of the season, on Oct. 18. The Hillsborough High Terriers, at home, beat the Hawks 3-0.

Game time for the Armwood-Hillsborough Class 6A-Region 2 quarterfinal contest is 7:30 p.m.
