Brandon at Newsome Falls Short Again, Loss Streak Extended to 5
The Brandon Eagles lost their fifth game of the season with a 35-13 upset at Newsome High School on Oct. 5. Brandon has yet to win a game this season.
Newsome on its home turf in Lithia extended its win streak to three games with an Oct. 5 upset over the Brandon Eagles (35-13), who went home with their fifth loss in as many games this football season.
It was the second conference game for both teams. Newsome is 2-0 in league play and 3-3 overall. Brandon, respectively, is 0-2 and 0-5.

Following a rain-delay start, the Eagles took to the field after a 37-14 loss to Sickles the week before. Meanwhile, the Gryphons on Oct. 5 went home with a late-game loss to the Armwood Hawks, who left the Lyle Flagg Field in Seffner with their fifth win in a 5-1 season.
Newsome entered the contest with wins against Chamberlain (31-28) and East Bay (30-22). Meanwhile, the East Bay Indians on Oct. 5 dealt a 33-14 loss to the Riverview Sharks, who spent a moment at home remembering the school's founding principal Vince Thompson, the field's namesake, who died last week.

Newsome's three season losses have been to Tampa Bay Tech (10-34), Jefferson (37-39) and Hillsborough (23-37).
Brandon's losses have been to Armwood, Freedom, Durant, Sickles and Newsome (see chart below). The Eagles under their first-year coach Dean Eychner have yet to score more than two touchdowns in one game (see chart below).
Next up for the Eagles is an away game, Oct. 12, at Plant. The Wolves take a week off, then travel to Durant on Oct. 18. The Durant Cougars are shining this season, with five wins and no losses. The Cougars at home on Oct. 5 beat their crosstown rivals, the Plant City Raiders, 22-7. Next up for the Cougars is a homecoming game matchup against Chamberlain, on Oct. 12.
