Brandon Parents Face More Costly Options if County Cuts After-School Program

Hillsborough County Commissioners will re-address the fate of the county's after-school program at a budget workshop Aug. 24.

Parents, teachers and more than few county workers will be watching tomorrow, Aug. 24, when political leaders decide the fate of the county’s after-school program.

Although proponents of the program are hoping for a compromise that will retain after-school care at county recreation centers, the outcome of the vote is uncertain.

The county’s after-school program serves 1,800 children.  Depending on income, the program costs parents $30-48 and runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. It is open from 1:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.
